The versatile yoga pant has become an athleisure wear staple that can be found in every woman’s closet. With all the different styles and prints available, you might find yourself coordinating your yoga outfits more often than your office ones.
However, in order to avoid any scrutinizing glances or fashion faux pas, you’ll want to check out these fashionable yoga pants Dos and Don’ts.
Do Steer Clear of Sheer
Unintentionally sheer material is a big fashion faux pas, and yes, that most importantly extends to yoga pants. The spandex quality of many kinds of yoga pants is often desirable because it moves with your body, but make sure your pants don’t become sheer when stretched. Your pants should be sufficiently opaque, so stretch the material under a bright light or try them on for a more accurate idea of how they’ll look once worn. You don’t want people seeing certain parts of you that should be left to the bedroom.
Do Play With Prints
We have to thank printed yoga pants for their contribution to chic and stylish athletic wear. Different prints and patterns provide us with more opportunities to show our enthusiasm for one of our favorite pastimes. Those with loud and bold taste will have no problem finding something quirky. However, if you consider yourself more subdued and traditional in your style preferences, there are plenty of prints that use subtle, similarly toned colors. But maybe this is a chance to break out of your normal print and color choices and spice it up a bit.
Do Make Sure the Size is Right
Different brands and styles can have some variance in their sizing, so keep that in mind when buying your size. If you can’t try them on, then read reviews whether they run big or small, or look at the sizing dimensions. Clothing that’s too tight or lose will be distracting, and having your pants constantly riding up during practice will definitely put a damper on your session. Buying the correct size will also decrease the appearance of panty lines and will help you feel extra fetching.
Do Know When to Say Goodbye
Unlike your jeans or leather jacket, the worn look won’t translate well onto your yoga pants. When signs of age start to show up in the form of tears, stretched-out material, or they become quite faded, thank them for their service and retire them. Yoga pants can be the most alluring and body-loving pair of clothing you own, so be sure they’re as fit as you are.
Don’t Wear Them to Work
You might love your yoga pants but that doesn’t mean your boss will. Many people put their yoga pants on double-duty, wearing them to practice and out around town or at home, but don’t expect coworkers and clients to share your enthusiasm for your favorite athletic apparel. Don’t try to pass them off as dress pants. They’re great for a brunch with girls or the gym, but meeting with clients in them is a big no-no.
Don’t Deny Neutrals
We love fun prints, but neutrals have an important place in your yoga wardrobe too. The look of long and fitted black, navy, or charcoal yoga pants will lend a more sleek and sculpted appearance to your legs. They also transition well into street-style when paired with flats, boots, and layers. These basic, solid-colored pants also give you a great staple to enable you to wear more fun and quirky tops giving you more weekly options.
Don’t Wear Nude Colors
Notice that nude wasn’t included in the list of good neutrals. Wearing yoga pants that are flesh-colored can create a lot of side-eyed looks that you don’t want to attract. From a distance or in peripheral vision, it can even create the illusion of being pants-less! There’s just something about them that makes every fabric ripple look unflattering. Don’t make us bring out the photos to prove it.
Don’t Sacrifice Comfort
Maybe the waist band is too thick or tight, or you hate the feeling of stirrup yoga pants, whatever is causing discomfort won’t go away just because you like how they look. Wearing something uncomfortable and distracting will interfere with your ability to unite your mind and body. Your yoga pants should move and breathe with your body.
By following these guidelines, you can jazz up your yoga attire without committing any big fashion mishaps. While it might be true that some rules were made to be broken, these tips allow you to explore your own styles while making sure you stay tasteful and suave.
